Joel de Vera Moncada is a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, and certified shiatsu therapist. With over 9 years of public health, healthcare, and eastern medicine experience, he provides a unique treatment style that focuses on patient-centered care, patient advocacy, and integrative health education and coaching. He believes that every patient has numerous healthcare options and is thrilled when patients seek eastern medicine to complement and/or achieve their health goals.
Joel practiced acupuncture in a diverse range of settings, including inpatient at the California Pacific Medical Center Acute Rehabilitation unit as well as outpatient settings and private clinics. In addition, he has spent over 6 years as an allied health practitioner, learning alongside the pioneers and nation’s experts on spine surgery and conventional approaches to spine care at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center’s departments of Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology. This experience has inspired Joel to approach spine care in an integrative way, providing acupuncture and shiatsu therapy for patients along the continuum: from acute pain, pre-surgical physio/emotional readiness, to post-surgical rehabilitation and chronic pain management.
Joel has also spent over a year training at Dr. Lifang Liang’s Fertility and Women’s Health clinic where witnessed and learned the modalities to treat infertility and an array of gynecological disorders. His other clinical areas of focus are in orthopedics, men's health, mental wellness, sleep, and digestive disorders.
Outside of his responsibilities as a primary health provider, Joel leads an active lifestyle. He has completed triathlons with Team in Training , enjoys playing tennis, running, outdoor boot camps, and being an occasional yogi.
